How to Add a Dessert Party to Your Wedding

Private fireworks viewing parties are the quintessential Disney experience, but I frequently hear couples lament that they weren’t told about this option when planning their Disney wedding or vow renewal. Although commonly referred to as “dessert parties,” these private events can also include dinner and/or drinks, making them ideal as a cocktail hour, welcome party or anniversary celebration.

Owners of Carrie Hayward’s Fairytale Weddings Guide will find complete details on dessert parties in Chapter 5, including pricing for every venue at Walt Disney World. But I’ve also put together a post with all the basic details to get you started, whether you’re planning a Disney’s Fairy Tale Wedding or just interested in adding something extra to your next Disney trip.

  1. Hi Carrie. If we choose to do a ride mix in with our dessert party, what would happen with the leftover cake and desserts we might want to pack up and bring home with us? I know technically Disney says we can’t bring food home, but it seems that most people do. Does the ride mix in present a barrier to bringing cake home? Thanks.

    1. Not if someone can mind the containers of leftover cake and desserts while you ride! Just leave them with a guest who isn’t riding or, failing that, one of your photographers or event guides. I’d enlist a friend/bridal party member to help box everything up and keep track of what happens to it.
